BRDC British F3 driver Billy Monger got his first taste of Formula One machinery at a surprise test at Rockingham today.
Billy was driving a modified Sauber C30 car from the 2011 season, as driven by Sergio Perez and Kamui Kobayashi.
The car, prepared by Tour De Force Power Engineering and his Carlin team, featured similar hand controls to his BRDC British F3 racer.
After undertaking a seat fitting in the morning, Monger took to the track, and was mentored by three-time F1 race winner Johnny Herbert, with stunt driver Terry Grant, a keen supporter of Billy’s recovery also in attendance.
His test is part of a feature to be shown on Sky Sports F1’s coverage of the Austrian Grand Prix this weekend.
Monger returns to British F3 racing action at Spa Francorchamps on 21-22 July.
