Hillspeed to star in new CBeebies show

Monday 8 October 2018

Successful Derbyshire team Hillspeed will help to bring the world of single-seater motor racing to a pre-school audience over the next couple of weeks, with a starring role in the new series of CBeebies programme Catie’s Amazing Machines.

Hillspeed, a multiple podium finisher this year in the BRDC British Formula 3 Championship, will appear in the first episode of the brand new show later today, Monday, 8th October, where presenter Catie Munnings will put one of the Hathersage squad’s F3 cars through its paces.

The ‘Racing Machines’ episode will initially go live online through the CBeebies iPlayer HERE at 16.30 this afternoon, with the CBeebies channel – available on Freeview, cable and satellite – giving the episode its actual TV premiere a week later on Monday, 15th October, at 16.30.

Filming for the episode took place at the Anglesey Circuit in North Wales several weeks ago where Catie, a successful rally driver in her own right, had the opportunity to experience an F3 car for the first time.

Aiming to give its pre-school audience an educational look into a variety of different ‘amazing machines’, the CBeebies series begins with the Racing Machines programme and goes on to explore a huge variety of other vehicles, machines and technology over the remaining 19 episodes.

“We’re all really looking forward to seeing the programme,” said Hillspeed team principal Richard Ollerenshaw. “We had a fantastic time with Catie and the production team at Anglesey and hope the young viewers – and their families as well – enjoy the episode. It’s a great series for young kids, with a lot of educational value, and we’re proud to have been involved.

“It’s so important to bring our sport to children when they’re young, there are so many potential career opportunities in motor racing, away from the actual driving itself, and it’s an industry at the forefront of so many technological advancements. Giving kids an insight at an early age is what we need to do to help nurture the mechanics, engineers and designers of the future.”

Away from the CBeebies show, presenter Catie Munnings competed this year in the European Rally Championship at the wheel of a factory-spec Peugeot 208 R2 with the Sainteloc Junior Rally Team. In 2016, she won the Ladies FIA European Rally Championship title.
