The youngest driver on the BRDC British F3 grid, Hillspeed’s Jusuf Owega, admits he is aiming for a podium before the end of the season.
The German driver turned 16 in April, and joined the field in time for the second event of the year at Rockingham, and was straight on the pace with a top-10 finish in his first single seater race.
He’s since backed that up with several other top-10 results, culminating in a fine fifth place in the final race of the weekend at Spa, an event notable for his stirring recovery drive to ninth in race two, after being barged down the order at turn one. Falling to 16th, he picked off his opponents lap by lap to climb back through the order, ultimately finishing two places ahead of his starting position.
With regular demonstrations of pace, Owega is pleased with his season so far.
“It’s not been too bad, we’ve been a bit unlucky but overall pace has been pretty good and the only thing missing now is a good result but I’m sure that will come in time.
“I’m happy with my performance and with the help the team has given me. It’s my first year in single seaters and it’s just a matter of time until the good results come and then we can build on that.
“I didn’t have any expectations at all going into the season as I didn’t know most of the drivers or circuits so I came in with a clear head to do my best and see where I stood afterwards.
“A podium to end the year would be quite nice, I think we definitely have the pace to aim to finish on the podium at one of the last six races and we just need that last bit of luck.”
