Renault Sport Academy racer Sun Yue Yang has been confirmed as the second driver in Carlin’s line-up for the 2018 BRDC British F3 Championship.
The Chinese driver makes his British F3 debut with the team this year following a 2017 season racing in the Eurocup Formula Renault and NEC Series.
The 17-year old has already enjoyed a solid career in karting before being selected in late 2016 by the Renault Sport Academy. Following this, the Chinese racer took part in the F4 UAE Championship before moving to the Formula Renault 2.0 Eurocup and NEC Championship for 2017.
Taking a season-best finish of fourth at Monza, Sun then set his focus on his 2018 ambitions and has participated in a pre-season testing programme with Carlin in anticipation of the opening round of 2018 the BRDC British F3 Championship late next month.
Sun said, “I’m pleased to be joining Carlin and lining up on the BRDC British Formula Three grid this season. It’s a good championship for me to compete in and continue my career with the support of the Renault Sport Academy behind me. I enjoy the British F3 car and have found pre-season testing so far to be really positive so I’m really looking forward to the first round of the season next month.”
Trevor Carlin, Racing Director, added, “It’s with pleasure that we welcome Sunny to the team for the 2018 season; he’s already been working well with the team in the lead up to the start of the season over the course of a testing programme. Sunny is a very committed racer and with the backing of a great programme like the Renault Sport Academy we look forward to seeing what he can do this season.”
