It was a dream weekend for Carlin’s Enaam Ahmed as he swept all before him to claim a hat-trick of race victories on ‘Super Monday’ at Oulton Park. A lights-to-flag triumph in race three sealed the achievement as he held off team-mate Cameron Das. Their stable-mate James Pull rounded out the final podium of the meeting in third and we caught up with them after the race to get their thoughts.

Winner: Enaam Ahmed, Carlin

“It feels pretty special. I can’t really believe it! I’m lost for words. I didn’t think it was really possible to win three races in a weekend but it is a really good way to start the season. I can’t thank the guys at Carlin enough, Mark, Luke, Matt, Trev, Sam. It has been awesome, they’ve given me an amazing car and they haven’t put a foot wrong. I didn’t quite deliver in qualifying with third but to come back with the wins has been amazing!”

Runner-up: Cameron Das, Carlin

“It was a really good race. I had the possibility of making a move on Enaam for the win at one point after he made a couple of mistakes but then I made a mistake of my own right after that so I wasn’t able to bring the fight to him. I’m really happy with it though, my pace was good and my start was good too so it was really encouraging for the next round.

“I didn’t really know how I was going to do at the first weekend but I think this is where I realistically expected to do. For the next round at Rockingham though, I’ve learned a lot this weekend and I think for the second round I will be right at the top.”

Third place: James Pull, Carlin

“I couldn’t quite find the pace. I got into a consistent rhythm but couldn’t quite find the pace to catch the guys in front. I tried really hard though. I had to defend from Callan O’Keeffe who was quite near to me and whilst I was defending, I lost a bit of time there. They seemed to move on up the road and I knew then that I couldn’t catch up, so I just went through the final laps making sure that I kept Callan behind.”

The next round of the 2017 BRDC British Formula 3 Championship takes place at Rockingham on 29/30 May.
