Hillspeed has confirmed Thai driver Sasakorn Chaimongkol as their third driver in the 2018 BRDC British F3 Championship.
Chaimongkol, known as ‘Cutter’, is no stranger to the team or the championship, having tested with them prior to competing in three races of the 2016 Autumn Trophy series, finishing 10th overall.
Most recently, the 19-year-old has competed in six races of the Formula 4 South East Asia category, finishing inside the top six on four occasions.
Prior to commencing his car racing career, ‘Cutter’ had enjoyed a strong karting career which saw him win the 125 Junior OpenAsian Karting Open Championship in 2011 and finishing runner-up in the ROK Cup International Field in the Mini category the same year. He then raced in Europe in the WSK Euro Series, and has also raced in the CIK-FIA European and World KF Championships, with strong results.
With good experience of the Tatuus Cosworth BRDC British F3 car, Chaimongkol has shown good pace in testing at Oulton Park this week, setting a best time just 1.3 seconds away from the overall fastest of the two days, which included topping Friday’s opening session in extremely tricky conditions.
