Fortec Motorsports is owned by former racing driver Richard Dutton, who started working for the team in 1993 before buying the outfit two years later. Fortec began racing in the Formula 3000 series and has grown to become one of the biggest single-seater race teams in Europe. It has successfully claimed both drivers’ and teams’ championship titles in Formula Renault UK and Formula BMW UK, with Robin Frijns securing the Formula Renault 3.5 Championship, a major feeder series to Formula One, in 2012.
The Daventry-based squad currently competes in Formula Renault 3.5, plus Eurocup Formula Renault 2.0. The team runs four cars in the FIA European Formula 3 Championship and will compete in BRDC British F3 with the new-for-2016, 230bhp Tatuus-Cosworth car.
Fortec made a strong start to its BRDC British Formula 3 career by running Ben Barnicoat to the 2015 Autumn Trophy title, taking three wins from the eight races held.
“BRDC British Formula 3 fits really well with what we are doing as a team in developing professional drivers. There is definitely a need for a single-seater series at this level. I am sure it is going to be a good championship, nearly as fast as the former British Formula 3 cars, and I think Jonathan Palmer has been very clever in putting this car together. It all makes sense so that’s why we have taken three cars to run in the BRDC British Formula 3 Championship.”
