Multiple race winning team SWR has been a key player in the BRDC Formula 4 Championship since the category’s inception in 2013, when the team was established purposely to compete in the MSV-run series.
Owned by Sean Walkinshaw, son of the late, great Tom Walkinshaw of TWR fame, and headed-up on the ground by Team Principal Ken Page and Commercial Manager Mick Gomme, who both bring a wealth of Formula One-level experience to the BRDC British F3 paddock, SWR has firmly established itself as a consistent front-runner and one of the main championship-challenging teams in the category.
Announcing its arrival into UK motorsport in style, SWR achieved victory on the opening weekend of the inaugural season in 2013 with Jack Barlow at the team’s home track, Silverstone Grand Prix Circuit, while then team-mate Matty Graham also celebrated podium success that weekend.
Taking four wins in total in 2013, with Barlow and Graham each ending the campaign in the coveted top six, the Chipping Norton squad added many more podiums in 2014 in the main championship and Winter Series. The team returned to the top step of the podium in 2015 with Jordan Albert who concluded only his second full season in racing inside the coveted top six in the title race.
As BRDC British Formula 3 enters a new era with the arrival of the brand new Tatuus-Cosworth F4-016, the youngest team in the championship is continuing its unstinting support by fielding three of the latest spec cars.
"SWR has thoroughly enjoyed being part of the Championship since its inception in 2013, we have celebrated a lot of success, numerous race wins and podiums, and everyone at the team is relishing working with the new Tatuus-Cosworth. We have a fantastic structure in place with a wealth of experience from the highest echelons of motorsport, including Formula One, and have brought some very exciting drivers through in the last three seasons, such as Jack Barlow, Matty Graham and Jordan Albert. As a racer myself, I know the importance of driver development and SWR is a team which prides itself on providing the full package for career-minded young racers aspiring to climb the ladder towards F1."
