24 / 25 July
Carlin’s championship leader Zak O’Sullivan enjoyed perhaps his strongest weekend of the year at Donington Park, winning the first two races of the event to stretch his championship lead to 47 points.
He won both contests from the front of the grid, having secured a double pole in qualifying on Saturday morning. His fastest lap in the session secured him pole for race one, and his second best time ensured he started at the front again in race two, with the grid for that contest based on each driver’s second fastest times.
The British driver earned £400 in prize money as part of the Jack Cavill Pole Position Cup, and put himself into a three-way tie at the top of the leader board for the end of year £1,000 prize for the driver for the most pole positions throughout the season.
The Jack Cavill Pole Position Cup initiative has been running since the inaugural BRDC F4 season in 2013, and has continued through the series’ transition into BRDC British F3, with in excess of £30,000 awarded to drivers during the past eight seasons.
The award is named after Jack Cavill, who played a vital supporting role in the early careers of several notable drivers from the 1960s onwards. The driver with the most pole positions each season wins a trophy and a cheque for £1,000. £200 cash prizes and a trophy are awarded to drivers who secure poles for races one and two each weekend. Prizes are presented by Jack's son John, who has been a key supporter of the championship since its inception. Click here for more information and the current leader board.
Elite Motorsport’s Javier Sagrera took home the Sunoco Fastest Driver of the Weekend award. The trophy is given to the driver who sets the fastest race lap of the weekend, with the Spaniard’s time of 1m25.047s coming in the final race.
