Former BRDC British F3 contenders Lando Norris and Colton Herta have been nominated for Autosport Awards.
The pair, who competed in selected British F3 races in 2016, have impressed in F1 and IndyCar, with Norris matching experienced McLaren F1 teammate Carlos Sainz, while Herta has claimed two victories in a strong maiden IndyCar campaign.
Norris has played a big part in McLaren’s resurgence this year and has claimed two sixth place finishes as his best F1 results, and has scored points on nine occasions to sit 11th in the overall standings with two races still to run.
Herta meanwhile became IndyCar’s youngest ever race winner with his breakthrough triumph at the Circuit of the Americas in March. He backed that up with victory from pole position in the final race of the season at Laguna Seca, and finished seventh overall in the championship standings.
Both drivers are nominated for the prestigious Rookie of the Year category, won by Charles Leclerc for the past two years, while Norris is also a contender for the British Competition Driver of the Year.
Former BRDC F4 champion George Russell is also a candidate in the Rookie of the Year and British Competition Driver of the Year categories.
The Autosport Awards are held at London’s Grosvenor House Hotel on 8 December, where this year’s winner of the Aston Martin Autosport BRDC Young Driver of the Year Award will also be announced, with all four contenders being British F3 graduates.
