The past two BRDC British F3 champions Clement Novalak and Kaylen Frederick will be in action in the FIA Formula 3 season opener at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya this weekend.
Novalak, the 2019 British F3 winner is heading into his second season in the category and switches to Trident, having claimed two podiums last season with Carlin.
Meanwhile, reigning British F3 champion Frederick makes his series debut this weekend, remaining with the Carlin team with whom he raced to glory last year.
Both drivers have figured comfortably inside the top-10 across multiple pre-season tests held at the Red Bull Ring and Barcelona last month.
FIA F3 will support F1 at seven weekends this season, with three races at each event. After this weekend’s opener, the field will move to Paul Ricard at the end of June, the Red Bull Ring on the following weekend, and then the Hungaroring on 30 July-1 August.
The second half of the season starts with Spa-Francorchamps on 27-29 August, Zandvoort on 3-5 September and the season finale at Austin on 22-24 October.
Speaking ahead of the weekend, Frederick said: “I’m really excited to get my first race weekend in FIA F3 underway. It will be a whole new set of challenges but I am confident that we will continue to adapt quickly, as we have done very well already throughout the short pre-season testing program.
“Obviously, I want to be towards the front and that is always going to be the aim. This weekend will be a big learning weekend, but there is no reason why we can't set the bar high. Based on the previous tests, I would love to be in the top 10 for each race, but right now, I don’t really know where everyone is.”
This year’s BRDC British F3 Champion will enjoy a full FIA F3 test at the end of the season, with two days of running with Carlin and Hitech GP.
