Former BRDC British F3 contender Jamie Chadwick created more motorsport history today (Sunday) after claiming the inaugural W Series title at Brands Hatch.
The 21-year-old, who famously became the first woman to win a British F3 race at the same circuit last year, has led the W Series title battle from the first race, and started on pole position on the Grand Prix circuit but was made to fight hard for the title.
She led the early stages, but Alice Powell and Emma Kimiläinen were able to squeeze through on lap seven of the 30 minute contest to put Chadwick down to third.
She was then in a straight fight with championship rival Beitske Visser, with the Belgian driver forcing her way through at Sheene Curve in the final stages of the race. But with Visser needing to win the race with Chadwick lower than fourth, the destiny of the title was never seriously in doubt, despite Chadwick falling further back.
In all, Chadwick claimed two victories and three further podiums in addition to today's fourth place, securing her the title by 10 points.
Chadwick's title means she's among 12 of this year's grid who are entitled to return to the W Series next year, while also adding to her exploits over the past 12 months which has seen her also claim the MRF title over the winter months.
