F3 Cup Championship leader Cian Carey enjoyed his first taste of a BRDC British F3 car at Silverstone today (Thursday 30 August), with the Chris Dittmann Racing team.
Irishman Carey, who also races with Chris Dittmann Racing in F3 Cup, has claimed six wins in the series this year, and is aiming to make a step up in his career.
"It's a lot more challenging than the F3 Cup cars, but we got to grips with it," he commented. "The car that CDR have set up was really good so we got down to some reasonable times at the end of the day so I'm quite happy. It was my first day in the car so hopefully there is more from here."
Carey singled out the competitive nature of British F3 as one of the reasons for a possible move up: "It's a step up in competitiveness, and the cars are very challenging, especially through the corners, very enjoyable and you can feel the car moving around.
"There are so many drivers in British F3 who have already done so much in their careers and will go on to do more. The racing in F3 Cup is more clubman but I'd love to see where I can put myself in comparison to the British F3 drivers."
He now hopes to put together a package to allow him to race at Donington Park and then at Silverstone in Britain's leading single seater series: "I'm hoping we can have a race in British F3, it'll be down to my sponsors, I have some sponsors with me in F3 Cup and hopefully they'll be help me into doing the last two rounds of British F3. Things look positive and if we can sort a deal out with Chris [Dittmann], I'd love to get out and prove myself and see what I can do against some of the top talents in British motorsport.
