Fortec Motorsports' Brazilian charger Roberto Faria believes he has a good chance of challenging for the BRDC British F3 championship crown this year.
The 17-year-old made his British F3 debut part way through the 2020 season and made rapid improvements, culminating in an excellent weekend at the Silverstone season finale, where he claimed two top-three starting positions and his first podium with second place in the final race of the year.
Refreshed after a winter spent back in South America and then competing in the F3 Asian Championship, Faria says he is now ready for a title fight in 2021.
"I went back to Brazil [over the winter], it was nice to see my family again and I was paying attention to what I could improve for this year. I did the F3 Asia series during this time and I learned a lot. Now I feel I'm ready to fight for the championship, and I've just started testing here again."
The Rio de Janeiro resident wasn't able to return to British F3 testing action until just a few weeks ago due to his Asian F3 commitments, but feels he is already back on the pace.
"Many of the drivers here were testing during lockdown in January and February, but I only came back in March, so I've had to catch up a bit. But we've already been quickest so we've had some good testing."
With a strong end to his 2020 season and promising testing pace so far, Faria believes he'll be in the fight at the front of British F3 this season.
"Last year I was improving with each round I was doing, and this year I also learned a lot when I did F3 in Asia. Now I'm back here and more ready than ever, so I feel I can fight for this championship. Our pace is really strong so I'm quite confident."
