Hampus Ericsson will graduate to the BRDC British F3 Championship for the remainder of the season, after completing a deal to race with Fortec Motorsports.
Ericsson, the younger brother of F1 ace Marcus Ericsson, will be the third Swedish driver on the grid, joining countrymen Linus Lundqvist and Arvin Esmaeili in the series, and will compete at the Donington Park and Silverstone GP circuits.
Ericsson joins BRDC British F3 mid-way through his second season of single-seater racing, having raced in the F4 British Championship - also with Fortec - for the past two seasons.
The 16-year-old is the reigning Ford F4 Challenge Cup champion, and won the prestigious Ronnie Peterson Award in his homeland last year, as well as the Rydell Special Award.
Prior to his graduation to single-seater racing, Ericsson enjoyed a strong karting career, culminating in securing the runner-up spot in the Swedish Championship in the KF Junior category in 2016, and third in the Junior 60 series in 2014.
Looking ahead to his BRDC British F3 debut, Ericsson commented: “I’m really looking forward to making the move up to BRDC British F3 for the last two rounds of the season. I’m also very happy to be remaining with the Fortec team as I move up into a new series, they’ve helped me a lot with my development in F4, and I know they’ll help me adapt to the new car very quickly. I’m looking to end my season on a high, and hope for strong results at Donington and Silverstone.”
Fortec Motorsports Team Manager Russ Dixon commented: “We’re very pleased to welcome Hampus to our British F3 team. He’s had a difficult season in F4, with issues beyond his control, and we feel a change of scenery will help him to display the natural talent and speed he has shown us. We look forward to seeing him in the British F3 car and we think he’ll spring a surprise or two in the final two rounds.”
