Carlin’s Clement Novalak will contest a full season of BRDC British F3 this year after a partial campaign in 2018, and the British driver is hoping that his experience can propel him to a title challenge this time around.
“I’m very excited about doing a full season as I was unable to do so last year,” he commented. “The calendar this year looks amazing so I can’t wait to get to the first round and get our season underway.”
A strong pre-season testing campaign has resulted in a top-10 time at the media day at Donington Park, before he set lap record pace at Spa-Francorchamps in March. He’s feeling positive about the progress made over the winter.
“We’ve focused on working with the car to make it better with the team. We’ve shown glimpses of pace which obviously gives me confidence but our pre-season testing has been very productive overall.”
Novalak started his 2018 season in ideal fashion with a pole position on his series debut, but a slow start meant that he dropped down the order at the lights, something he’s looking to rectify this time around.
“I’m just focused on giving it my all every weekend and doing the job. Obviously last year I managed to get to grips with the track quite nicely but didn’t work on my clutch control enough! But I think it will be a good weekend.”
As for overall ambitions, Novalak hopes to be a figure at the front throughout the season.
“Obviously having last years’ experience in the championship, the title would definitely be a target. But we’re taking it weekend by weekend with the team and hopefully at the end it will be a good result.”
