The early BRDC British F3 Championship leader Clement Novalak was delighted with his season opening round at Oulton Park, and believes that he maximised his weekend efforts.
The Carlin driver's win in the first race of the year was not only his maiden triumph, but also his first visit to the podium in British F3. With a surge through the field in race two, and another podium in race three he fired to the top of the championship standings, 11 points clear of Fortec's Johnathan Hoggard.
"We did a proper job at Oulton Park, we got out of it what we wanted," he commented. "We were a little bit unfortunate in the last race but I think we maximised our potential, and hopefully we can carry this momentum forward into the next round."
Faced with a competitive field in the series, Novalak admitted he had hoped for a strong weekend, but actually surpassed his expectations.
"We knew going into the weekend that it was going to be tough and there was going to be a lot of fast drivers around us. I think we actually outdid ourselves on the reverse grid race [going from 13th to sixth]. All in all we did a good job, I didn't expect it as good as this, I expected to have a good weekend but I think I outdid myself. Hopefully I can keep going in the same direction in the next few rounds."
With the rest of the field, Novalak now heads to Snetterton in just under three weeks time, though this will be his first time racing at the Norfolk venue having missed out last year. He's hoping for more of the same next time out.
"It's my first time racing there, I've done a couple of tests this year obviously to familiarise myself with the track, but hopefully it's as successful as Oulton Park!"
