Double R Racing's Louis Foster and Carlin duo Kaylen Frederick and Nazim Azman were the three fastest drivers in qualifying ahead of the opening races of the season at Oulton Park. Here's what each had to say at the end of the session.
Pole: Louis Foster, Double R Racing
"A really good way to start the season. In testing we knew we were quick, yesterday I think we were third overall and were sitting there or thereabouts. I'm mega happy with it, it's a bit unexpected but I think we knew we were going to be in the ballpark for pole. So I'm really happy, Double R have done a great job with the car, my mechanic and engineer have done an amazing job, so I'm really pleased.
"We start race one and three from the front, and then hopefully we can win those two. It's quite difficult to overtake around here so just full focus on the start and the first lap, and as long as we're in the lead we're good to go as long as we don't make a mistake. I did a race run yesterday in session four to test out the car during the race, that was in hot conditions and the car was pretty mint, and we were banging in consecutive quick laps on old tyres, so we're confident in our race pace and the races should be good."
Second and third: Kaylen Frederick & Nazim Azman, Carlin
"We can't be upset with the result, two good starting positions and there's an opportunity to pick up a position in race one and race three. It's a great start to the weekend, great start to the season and we missed out because I went for a cool lap instead of another push lap but I'm pretty happy with the pace we had before that.
"That [victory] is obviously the goal, I'm going to focus on getting the best start I can and pounce on any opportunities that present themselves and we'll see how the race goes."
"I'm happy with that. Considering the start to the weekend we had, we didn't really get the pace on, so I'm very happy to be starting P3 which is a really good result. It's obviously a bit of a shame that my best lap was deleted because of track limits, as I could have been on pole for race three, but overall P3 and P3 is really good and right now all I need to focus on is my race start and hopefully get a jump on the two people in front of me.
"This track is mainly about starts at the end of the day, and it's a pretty hard track to overtake on as it's narrow. At the end of the day you just want to stay clean, stay on track, no crashes and make the best start possible as that's the highest chance of making positions."
