Hitech GP has today announced Reece Ushijima as its first confirmed driver for this year’s BRDC British Formula 3 campaign, which starts with four races at Oulton Park on 1-2 August.
The Californian is graduating to car racing full-time from karts this season, and switches to British F3 as Hitech’s maiden signing in the series, following its announced entry last month.
Whilst the 16-year-old is making his permanent switch to car racing this year, he has previously sampled and achieved podiums in Formula Ford 1600 and set fastest laps in the Asian-based MRF Challenge on his debut at Dubai Autodrome.
An announcement on the team’s second driver will be made in due course, ahead of the squad’s debut on the British GT package next month.
Ushijima said: “I’m really excited to have the privilege to be able to work and race with such an established and experienced team such as Hitech GP. I know that the team will put maximum effort in to developing me on and off the track to be able to achieve the best results possible in my first car racing season. After a delayed start to seasons all over the world due to the pandemic I really can’t wait to hit the track and get racing.”
