Spaniard Javier Sagrera and his Elite Motorsport team are new to BRDC British F3 this year, but that isn’t stopping the 17-year-old from setting high targets ahead of his UK racing debut next month.
The Spanish F4 graduate has been busy with his team in pre-season, testing at the majority of circuits to be visited this year, and he’s pleased with his progress so far.
“It’s going quite well and I think we’re doing a strong pre-season with a lot of testing. I think it’s all about learning the car and adapting to it.”
Sagrera has a partial season of racing in Spanish F4 under his belt, but the British F3 car is quite a step up in terms of pace, and he’s been working on adapting to the new challenges.
“When you go to a bigger car, there’s a bit more downforce and a bit more power in the engine. I’m learning to understand the car, the brakes, and how to maximise it.”
He’s also familiarising himself with British circuits, having raced at venues in his homeland and in France last year.
“I’m coming from the European tracks and I think the English ones are very hard ones. I needed to learn a lot about them so we’ve done quite a lot of testing to understand them and be good at them.”
With the season edging closer, Sagrera is feeling confident of a campaign towards the front of the field.
“My target is to do as best as possible and also to win and to be a contender for the championship.”
