2016 BRDC British F3 Champion Matheus Leist ended his Stateside sports car campaign with a strong run to fourth position in the 12 Hours of Sebring last weekend.
Leist who was the championship's inaugural champion in its current form as BRDC British F3 four years ago, has contested selected events in the WeatherTech SportsCar Championship in 2020 in JDC-Miller Motorsport's Cadillac DPi-V.R. prototype. He'd previously contested this season's two events at Road Atlanta, including Petit Le Mans, and plus the Laguna Seca round and the season-opening Rolex 24 at Daytona where he placed fifth.
The Brazilian shared driving duties at Sebring with Scott Andrews and Stephen Simpson, completing 347 laps between them to finish just one lap adrift of the winning Mazda after half a day of racing. Leist's on-track rivals at Sebring included former F1 and IndyCar stars Juan Pablo Montoya and Sebastien Bourdais, plus many of the best sports-GT racers on the planet.
Leist, who won the BRDC British F3 title with Double R Racing, switched to endurance racing came after two promising seasons on the IndyCar grid where he achieved a best result of fourth at Indianapolis Motor Speedway.
