Renowned single-seater team Carlin joined the BRDC British Formula 3 grid in 2016, after the Surrey-based outfit purchased three new-for-2016 Tatuus BRDC British F3 cars.
Carlin are one of the largest teams outside Formula 1 with race winning experience in a variety of championships including British F3, Porsche Supercup, Formula Renault 3.5, A1GP,and the FIA F2 and F3 Championships.
The outfit is based in a bespoke facility in Farnham and expanded their USA base to compete in the Indycar series in 2018, the highest rung of American single seater racing. As one of the most successful single-seater teams in Europe, they have helped develop a number of renowned drivers including Formula One graduates Nico Rosberg, Daniel Ricciardo and four-time World Champion, Sebastian Vettel.
The team have been consistent front-runners in BRDC British F3, with Ricky Collard finishing second overall in 2016, before the team secured the 2017 BRDC British F3 Championship after a dominant campaign with Enaam Ahmed. They went close again in 2018 with Nicolai Kjaergaard, while also taking wins with Jamie Caroline and Sun Yue Yang. Meanwhile, the team worked with MSV to produce an adapted car for Billy Monger's racing comeback, which resulted in four podiums.
Carlin won the championship again in 2019 with Clement Novalak, and won races with Lucas Petersson and Kaylen Frederick. Novalak claimed two wins and multiple podiums, as he held off a season-long challenge from several drivers to secure the title.
"We know it's important to go where the drivers want to race, and the BRDC British F3 car has created real interest amongst young drivers. We know how important it is for young drivers to prepare for the incredibly competitive FIA F3 European Championship and GP3 Series and we believe that the BRDC British Formula 3 Championship is a very useful step in that process. Providing a large amount of track time in a good car in a well-run championship will equip drivers well for the future."
