Run by McLaren Autosport BRDC finalist and former British Formula Vauxhall Champion Wayne Douglas, the squad has more than 20 years experience of helping top karting drivers step up into car racing championships through their respected driver development programme – many going on to win in premier race series such as Formula Renault, GP3 and Formula 3.
Douglas Motorsport has enjoyed plenty of success in the previously named BRDC Formula 4 Championship, narrowly missing out on the 2015 Autumn Trophy title with Harrison Scott and the 2016 title with Joey Mawson. The team took two victories, three pole positions and four other podium finishes in the eight-race series and claimed the honour of winning the first-ever race with the new Tatuus car. In 2017 they scored three BRDC British F3 race wins with Jordan Cane, who claimed eighth place in the overall standings despite missing the first six races of the season while he waited to turn 16. The team created history in 2018, powering Jamie Chadwick to the first ever female race win in British F3 history at Brands Hatch.
For 2019, the team ran three cars for Belgian driver Ulysse De Pauw, American Benjamin Pedersen and McLaren Autosport BRDC Award finalist Kiern Jewiss, with the team taking regular podiums and victories. Jewiss was a standout performer in the second half of the season, with seven podiums in the last 10 races including a breakthrough victory at Brands Hatch, and also significantly out-scored any other driver in the championship, demonstrating the competitiveness of the team and the strong performance of its cars.
“As a former racer myself, we are a one-stop shop for aspiring single-seater drivers as we run in-house training. BRDC British Formula 3 is a superb platform for this as the cars are all equal and respond superbly to changes, and Douglas Motorsport has shown that we have got to grips with the new Tatuus car quickly and we have enjoyed a very successful few seasons with many race wins.”
